Garden Updates

Tim made a new Raised Garden Box for me out of the Freecycled wood. This is pictured with the box still upside down.
Here's the Box in it's new place. We'll have a few more boxes lined up where the lawn is behind and in front of this photo. We are trying the "Lasagna Method" and the newspaper is there to kill off the remaining lawn.

Hi Janice!

Thanks for visiting my blog.

I did the exact same thing with my homemade rasised beds. Last fall I built them and lined the bottom with newspaper and piled leaves on top.

At the end of this growing season I'm planning to significantly expand my vegetable garden and be ready for next year.

ps what a cute kid!

L, if everyone went and invested in tools in my neighborhood, bought seeds and fertilizer etc, would it be cost effective? The article says no. But consider the lifetime value if this were done. Most of the tools will not have to be repurchased EVERY year, it's an initial investment, plus if a whole neighborhood decided to convert to growing their own food, there would be more of a community in that neighborhood, where people will trade seeds, tools etc. Perhaps people will even pitch in for a community tool shed to use for larger tools? Yes, I try to be a Locavore, supporting your local farmer who drives his produce to the market 10~20miles does help the environment than purchasing the same fruit grown halfway around the world, don't you think?

Hi Gina, Thansk for the compliment on Caleb, he's such a character, he's always making us laugh! Nice Green Beans you have, mine are not doing so well, it might give me a few beans but not overly productive.

The small person planted in your new raised bed looks interesting. I didn't know you could plant and grow people using lasagna gardening.

LOL! I think these small people grow quite well and prefer the loamy lasagna style soil! You are what you eat, right?

Actually, Caleb is dreaming about his new Sandbox that Dad has promised him...he wants a RED one! Now for finding some eco-friendly red paint...
