White House Veggie Garden!
What's this all about?
" "Eat the View" is a campaign to plant healthy, edible landscapes in high-impact, high visibility places, whether it's the "First Lawn" or the lawn in front of your child's school."
Did you know: Jimmy Carter had solar panels installed on the roof of the white house.
Did you know: Ronald Reagan had them torn down his first month in office.
Ladybird Johnson was a huge fan of native wildflowers, and many places around DC still bloom with the reminders of her influence.
In the past (though I don't remember which presidents, my daughter has a book about anecdotes, so I can check) many presidents kept gardens, even goats at the white house. Culturally speaking it was no big deal, everyone did it.
I say sheet mulch that whole lot, and get planting. Its not just the american public who will see it, but visiting dignitaries as well. Lets set an undeniable, undebatable positive example for once.
Yup, I did find out fairly recently about these wonderful things, it's sad about the Solar Panels too... That would have been awesome to have that still. Imagine what our world would be like now, with the White House as a model, most of us may have had solar panels installed and making our own energy instead of relying on coal or oil to produce electricity.
