Uprooting the Pepper Tree

The front yard had a stump that needed to be uprooted. T dug it up all by himself in 3 days. Amazing!!! Thanks T! The trees roots were dangerously close to the main water pipe (like 4 inches from a very large root!) Once we figure out a way to get that 250 lbs of pure root out of the giant hole, we'll move over about 4~5 feet to plant a large Avocado tree since we love Avo's!

Garden Updates

Kyohou grape cluster, we started with 8 clusters, then read online that the clusters need to be supported by at least 30 leaves each cluster. Our vine is small so we took off all but 2 clusters, then spaced out the individual grapes at 2cm. So far so good!

We've got lots of bugs and grubs...some good, some not good at all for our garden:We found this extreeeeeemly large slug hiding in the compost bin we turned over... uggghhhh...

Barely surving Blueberries. I think it needs more acid in the soil. The birds keep stealing the ripend berries too!

The newly transplanted Asian Pear tree is doing well.

Dwarf Cavendish is settling in, in it's new home and finally growing new leaves, and found 4 pups. I took 2 out to let the stronger 2 develop.

Harvest Updates

Here's a load of tangerines from the HH house. We still go there to clean up, water and maintain the yard.

I discovered online that you can eat Pineapple Guava petals, so we got carried away and also picked rose petals, loquats and peppermint to see if it will make a good fruit/floral salad. The Guava petals and loquats were great, the mint didn't go so well with it, and the rose petals were hard and bitter! (so we took them out and composted them) looks beautiful tho, lol

Here's some scrambled eggs with Chinese Chives(nira) it's very good if you don't mind the pungent chives.

Garden Updates

One of our grape vines, this one is a green seedless grape. This year it has no blossoms. The Kyohou grape vine has about 8 blossom clusters, so we're excited.

Cabbages coming along, even though we have lots of caterpillars trying to eat the tender greens...

We've managed to scrounge around for some soil to finish 3 beds. The furthest left bed are the cucumbers & melons. The furthest middle bed are the beans, Furthest right bed is still in need of soil, closest left bed is going to be peppers, potatoes and eggplants, the closest middle bed will be onions. We're not sure if we can get the 6th bed done in time for this planting season.

Blueberries! Last year we had just one(!) berry. This year we might have enough to fill one of those berry containers they sell at the store..hehe

The Kabocha pumpkins going strong. The larger vines already have blossoms growing. You can see some recently planted kabochas in the back.
